It seems that Sven has been thinking about this for some time - see his bark announcement.
I like mutt as it is quite well, but there's a number of features that are missing - most notably a handy overview of folders and unread messages (I guess that's what the sidebar patches do?) and concurrent editing and browsing - it's deeply annoying if you have to postpone your message ten times just to c&p snippets from different messages into one. An offline IMAP cache would be fun too, but that's not really a requirement for me. Good luck with the project! (Is there any way to subscribe to SVN commits by mail or RSS from berlios?)
I am aware of Sven's idea of bark, but since there is no code, I took the pragmatic way of extending mutt. Yes, the sidebar patch is about having an overview over all the folders, and easily selecting them.
I totally agree that postponing/resuming is totally annoying, but I haven't found a good solution for that, yet (neither a patch nor a good idea from myself exists).
bark vs mutt... yes, there is no code for bark. feature. code will be written only when there is a consensus for the language. and i only want interested people who are willing to design the roadmap first - not hackers who contribute code in their own way and fashion, not willing to agree on a few things.
development will be done such that extensions will be easier later, and in a way most developers agree upon. and no feature ever gets in without existing documentation. i know this is hard, but it's a lesson learned by development of mutt which btw is still lacking a LOT of documentation already in existence. mutt development is dead. sad, but true. now, as for mutt-ng - this needs a better name. just try to find messages on mutt-ng which are not about mutt - and i think you will understand why a good name is inevitable. the name should be short - and yet unique. i tried searching for a few terms with "dog", but they yield too many hits. the name "greyhound" came to mind - however, this gives too many hits, obviously. but the color stuck. i looked for graydog and eventually pinkdog - and yet i had may hits. as one of my favourites quotes is "bunt ist meine lieblingsfarbe" ("'colorful' is my favourite color"), i tried "buntdog". i also got and handful of hits. so - how about "buntdog"? i am sure some folks will come up with a good expansion.. like.. "better und newer trained dog". whatever. i think you see the value in a good name.. --Sven

I am a mutt and i am very offended by this doublespeak. YOu have all been brainwashed by the liberal elite, good day sirs!
