In a fit of creativity, I just defined the new avantgarde music style of "Musique concrète dogmatique", i.e. "dogmatic concrete music". Its root lie in the
Musique concrète style of music. I, for my part, took the base of Musique concrète (purely using samples/looping/etc.) and set some constraints to its production, defined by the following dogmas (some will probably recognize the similitary with
Dogma 95):
- Dogma #1: Every track must be mixed only out of samples recorded in the real world.
- Dogma #2: The only effects allowed for mixing are reverting, fading in/out and pitching.
- Dogma #3: Every track must be published at most 24 hours after the samples have been recorded.
- Dogma #4: Every track must have a length of 3 minutes and 56 seconds.
- Dogma #5: In every track, exactly one dogma must be broken.
As no genre can exist without some track that represents it, I quickly produced the track "Sounds of Saturday", with samples from crushing a beer can, sucking air out of an empty beer can, clicking the mouse and banging a
calabaza on the table, and published it on my new
podcast. Now go and produce your own musique concrète dogmatique tracks.
